From Byron Schenkman, Artistic Director:
Women have been publishing original music since the 16th century and BS&F features music by women in many of our live and online concerts. In honor of International Women’s Day I have assembled a playlist with ten of my favorite pieces from the Byron Schenkman & Friends YouTube channel, from Maddalena Casulana (16th-century Italian) to Mari Esabel Valverde (21st-century North American). I’m also including our newest video featuring a beautiful tango by 19th-century mixed race Brazilian composer Francisca “Chiquinha” Gonzaga. Enjoy!
P.S. Please “like” and comment on these videos and, if you haven’t already, please subscribe to our YouTube channel. It’s all free and you can help us introduce this wonderful music to a wider audience!
