This February 11th, embark on a musical journey through the heart of English Baroque music. Our program brings together the titans of the era, Henry Purcell and George Frideric Handel, alongside their esteemed contemporaries and associates. Enjoy the brilliance of Handel in a sonata for oboe and continuo. Delve into the works of Elisabetta de Gambarini, a vocalist of Handel’s who was also a composer in her own right. Discover the music of John Stanley, a church organist who was blind, so he directed Handel’s oratorios from memory. Tour through three composers’ settings of texts written by William Shakespeare, with Thomas Arne’s “Come away death”, Ignatius Sancho’s “Sweetest Bard” and Henry Purcell’s “Sweeter than Roses.”
