Get ready for a sonic adventure! Sound Salon proudly presents “Inspired by Bach,” a virtual concert bursting with new music for harpsichord and strings, premiering on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 7:00 PM Pacific Time on the Sound Salon YouTube Channel. This free and accessible-to-all event promises an evening of groundbreaking compositions, followed by a live Q&A with the artists on Zoom, offering a glimpse into the creative minds behind the music.

Brace yourselves for an explosive online concert experience! The program features two captivating works by the acclaimed Damien Geter. His “Buh-roke” for strings and harpsichord, alongside the world premiere of “Groove Etude in Rondo Form” for viola and harpsichord. Geter is known for infusing classical forms with elements of music from the Black diaspora. In this new work, commissioned by Sound Salon, he challenges the performers “to move from the precision of counting to that of feeling the groove.” “Buh-roke” meanwhile pays homage to Baroque techniques with a funky twist, inspired by the harpsichord concertos of J.S. Bach.

The journey doesn’t stop there! “Inspired by Bach” also features a performance of Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw’s “Concerto for Harpsichord and Strings.” Shaw playfully reimagines the familiar language of Bach, weaving it into a “wild, weird, surrealist story – an alternative reality.” This exclusive online event offers a rare chance to experience this innovative and captivating work, originally commissioned for Byron Schenkman & Friends (now Sound Salon) 10th anniversary celebration.

Rounding out this sensational concert is the new work “Archimedes Principle” for violin and harpsichord by composer Jean Ahn. Inspired by the lyrics of a Korean pop song, Ahn explores the concept of Archimedes Principle, “it’s what makes ships float. Only when my inner self is emptied will I be able to rise up to the surface of the water.” Ahn’s evocative composition promises a thought-provoking and emotionally resonant experience
